us open chic

I spent the day watching tennis at the US Open today!

Now, tennis is a sport that I hold in very high regard. I am an incredibly unathletic person, but I did play tennis in high school -- looking back, it was a clear choice: the tennis team had the cutest uniforms. Pleated skirts, polos, preppy, preppy, preppy.

But today, tennis outifts have changed from their preppy past and become... well, remember this?

Terrifying.

Maria Sharapova recently pulled it together a bit, even landing on Style.com's Ten Best Dressed of the Week in this little red Nike number:

But still, I think there's plenty of room for improvement.

Above, Calvin Klein resort 2008. Shorten that dress to mini-length, add some tennies, and you're not only gorgeous but totally tennis-appropriate.

Above, Nicole Miller resort 2008. The Classic white tennis dress. Practical -- pockets! for tennis balls! -- and chic.

Above, Burberry Prorsum resort 2008. If that was jersey or some sporty blend instead of satin, it'd be perfect.

Above, Dries Van Noten spring 2007. Potential broken ankles aside, it would be so cute if they'd play in these shoes. And you know, as long as we're thinking impractically with the shoes, I might as well just go all the way:

Above, Balenciaga fall 2007. Doesn't get much sportier than that.

Want to stay #1, Justine Henin? Break out the Balenciagas on the courts and you'll be golden.
