Look, I understand a little about marketing, and I know that a newsstand cover of a magazine has to be accessible and totally un-scary so that your average Jane will not be intimidated by Mary-Kate Olsen in crazy glasses or spiked Louboutins and buy July's ELLE.
But honestly. How do you go from this:

You'd think that for someone who's come to be revered for her fashion eccentricities, someone might have said "Guys, think we're dumbing-down this cover maybe a little too much?"
